Design

Our office is located in Somme-Leuze, near Durbuy. During the design, extra attention has been paid to the orientation of the windows (with triple glazing), which not only offer a beautiful view, but also help to maximize the generation of extra free heat during the heating season. Overhanging eaves, automatic outdoor sun blinds and all-season glass where necessary help prevent overheating in the summer.

Materials

We have opted for as many local natural products as possible. The exterior is completely finished with natural slates that naturally integrate the whole building into the environment. For aesthetic reasons, we have chosen integrated solar slates for the production of our green energy. Less compactness is compensated by additional insulation, so that the K-level makes heating of surface possible even at very low temperatures.

HVAC

Heating and cooling are provided by a geothermal heat pump in combination with two completely separate circuits for an extra comfort. In addition to floorheating in all rooms, fan convectors also supply sleeping and working areas with additional cool or warm air. The heat pump also produces sanitary hot water.

EMS

Extra attention was paid to the Energy Management System. We chose LOXONE to control energy production and energy demand as flexibly as possible. For example, in case of overproduction, you can automatically choose to charge an electric car, produce sanitary hot water or even automatic heating or cooling if necessary. The ventilation is also set to constant measurement of humidity and CO2 levels and the system will automatically do its work when there is a threat of overheating. All of the mentioned above should possible to provide with sufficient energy to meet demand with a PV installation of just over 5 kWp.

To reduce water consumption, we have installed a rainwater tank that can retain up to 20 000 liters of water, which can then be filtered and used for toilet needs, washing and irrigation. This process is also monitored by our EMS.
